Igor Levitt’s Bach “Gothenburg variations” won the 2016 vocal machine music award. The variation of Gothenburg (bwv988), a late Bach keyboard work, was published in 1741. There are 32 pieces of the whole song, all of which are performed for 40-80 minutes. This work was ignored for a long time until the first half of the 20th century. Now, Gothenburg variation is regarded as one of the most important variations in Bach’s works. The whole work includes theme, 30 variations and repeated themes. Bach’s “Gothenburg variations”, bwv988, is Bach’s famous harpsichord work. It was written in 1741-1742, during which Bach’s eyesight began to decline in Leipzig. This is the largest, most magnificent and the greatest variation in the history of music. This variation is for the two-story harpsichord. Bach has specified the type of keyboard in each variation. The architectural structure of this composition skill is really amazing!
