电影《末代皇帝》是贝纳尔多·贝托鲁奇执导，尊龙，陈冲，邬君梅，彼德·奥图主演的一部传记电影。影片讲述了溥仪60年的跌宕一生。该片获1988年第60届奥斯卡金像奖最佳影片、最佳导演、最佳改编剧本、最佳摄影、最佳美工、最佳服装设计、最佳剪辑、最佳音响效果、最佳原始音乐九项大奖。
《末代皇帝》的配乐获得了第60届奥斯卡最佳配乐奖，负责为本片作曲的有三个人，包括：中国的苏聪、日本的坂本龙一、和英国的大卫·伯恩(David Byrne)。其中阪本龙一的音乐扮演了十分重要的角色，但国内观众最熟悉的序曲则是David Byrne的作品。三人的出身和音乐风格各异，却能够发挥出东西方文化撞击之后又能水乳交融的神奇效果，为这一部从西方人观点拍摄的东方电影找到了一套最合适的配乐。全片以大气派的管弦乐和悠扬的主题旋律变奏音乐交错，将溥仪一生起跌极大的传奇遭遇烘托得甚为贴切。
苏聪出身自北京中央音乐学院，被称为“中国奥斯卡第一人”，跟后来凭《卧虎藏龙》再度扬威奥斯卡的谭盾同被归类为“新派作曲家”，后来两人均移民美国。坂本龙一是日本最着名的电子乐团“黄色魔术乐团”（Yellow Magic Orchestra）的主将，因其外形冶艳，也参演过《俘虏》（Merry Chrismas, Mr. Lawrence）的同性恋军官，并为本片谱出极具风格的配乐。大卫·伯恩则为“说话头”(Talking Heads)乐队成员，在英国出生却长居美国，跟中国人有亲属关系。他不算是专业的电影配乐家，但也经常为电影创作主题曲，也为一些电视配乐。
